ABOUT DCI

Digital Cinema Initiatives, LLC (DCI) was created in March 2002, and is a joint venture of Disney, Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal and Warner Bros. Studios. DCI's primary purpose is to establish and document voluntary specifications for an open architecture for digital cinema that ensures a uniform and high level of technical performance, reliability and quality control.

DCI Publishes CTP Version 1.4.1

DCI has published a revision of its Compliance Test Plan (CTP) from version 1.4b to version 1.4.1 CTP version 1.4.1 contains the following changes:

  • Removes support for the following Test Subjects and corresponding test sequences:
    • Approved for Distribution April 24, 2024
    • Narrow the scope of Procedure 10.4.67 to Media Blocks
    • Remove Procedure 10.4.3 Security Devices Self-Test Capabilities
    • Remove Procedure 10.4.83 Encrypted Auxiliary Data Processing
    • Delete Procedure 10.4.55 Logging of Failed Procedures
    • Delete Procedure 10.4.17 Key Usage Time Window
    • Remove ASM and LE tests and references
    • Clarify the objective of Procedures 8.2.12 and 8.2.13
    • Specify pass/fail criteria for 10.4.1 Theater System Reliability
    • Remove ingest storage and network performance tests
    • Add summary of changes Appendix K
    • Fix test material filenames of Test Materials A.6.133 and A.6.134
    • Delete unreferenced Test Materials A.3.65 and A.3.67
    • Add valid KDM for DCI 2K Sync Test with KDM-Borne MIC Keys
    • Add missing KDM for Audio Tone Multi-Reel (Encrypted)
    • Fix Test Material numbering from A.6.135 to A.6.139
    • Update the definition of Direct View Display to match that in the DCSS
    • Remove unused test materials A.2.228, A.3.61 and A.3.69

     

    Pursuant to DCI's Compliance Test Plan Change Policy Statement, the revision of CTP 1.4b to CTP 1.4.1 is a Stage 1 change, taking effect immediately. See the Compliance Test Plan (CTP) page for CTP version 1.4.1.

    The CTP Version 1.4.1 is available both as an online HTML edition and as a PDF file. The PDF version contains pagination and includes page numbers whereas the HTML version does not. The HTML version is considered the definitive instance of the Compliance Test Plan, Version 1.4.1. There is a redline version that compares CTP 1.4b to CTP 1.4.1, showing additions and deletions. The redline is available in an online HTML edition.


     

 

DCI Publishes Direct View Addendum 1.2

DCI has published a revision of its Direct View Addendum 1.2 from version 1.1 which contains the following changes:

  • Merge A.5 into A.3 into a single Spectroradiometer Type
  • Specify vignetting requirements
  • Fix pixel co-sited language
  • Fix D-Cinema spelling
  • Add reference to DCSS
  • Remove positive tolerance from off-axis uniformity
  • Reference the suite of ISO/CIE 11664 documents
  • Use the term spectroradiometer consistently
  • Widen Table 2 to full page
  • Allow curved displays
  • Improve Table 2 page breaks
  • Added missing 'horz' to Table 2

DCI Releases DCI Specification, DCSS Version 1.4.4

DCSS Changelog since 1.4.3

  • Permit playback of CPLs after the signing certificate has expired
  • Relax ingest and storage capacity requirements

 

The DCSS 1.4.4 is available as an online HTML edition and as a PDF file. The PDF version contains pagination and includes page numbers whereas the HTML version does not. The PDF version is considered the definitive instance of the Digital Cinema System Specification, Version 1.4.4.

There is also a redline version that compares DCSS 1.4.4 to DCSS 1.4.3, showing additions and deletions. The redline is available in an online HTML or PDF edition. Future DCSS revisions will modify the DCSS Version 1.4.4.

Jim Whittlesey

DIGITAL CINEMA INITIATIVES, LLC, ANNOUNCES PURDUE SCHOLARSHIP IN HONOR OF JIM WHITTLESEY

Hollywood, California - February 18, 2017 - Digital Cinema Initiatives, LLC, (DCI) announced today that it has created a scholarship fund at Purdue University in memory of Jim Whittlesey (1953-2017). Jim received his BSEE from Purdue University in 1981.

Jim was known and beloved throughout the entertainment industry as a d-cinema pioneer and ambassador. DCI is forever grateful to Jim for his invaluable contributions to its organization and to the digital cinema community.

Jim worked for DCI from 2003 to 2005 during the initial development of the DCI System Specification, becoming its Director of Technology. He returned to consult for DCI in late 2014 until his untimely passing in January 2017.

The DCI scholarship donation of $12,000 will aid students in electrical engineering and computer science. DCI invites you to honor Jim's legacy by making contributions to the Jim Whittlesey Scholarship Fund at: connect.purdue.edu/InMemoryofJimWhittlesey.
